From the East
Brethren,
Welcome to September. August sure went out in a “blaze” with record setting temperatures.
Being dark in August, always puts such a gap in our lodge work. However, we will be right back at it this month. We have one brother who is ready to be passed, with another right behind him ready to complete his EA Proficiency, then “HIS” Passing. We also have a couple of potential applicants who may be looking to join our family.
I hope to see all of you at Stated Dinner and meeting September 12th. Remember we adjusted dinner to start at 6:00PM to allow for more visitation before the drop of the gavel at 7:30.
On a more somber note: We have lost so many brothers, family and friends, this last couple of years. It makes me reflect on what these men have that causes them to contribute so much to our communities, give so much freely of themselves, and make such an impression. Their qualities so similar, All giving - All caring - All sacrificing for others. As Masons, we say we make good men better. How do you measure this? Do YOU look inside and measure the progress of your personal ashlar, to see you are truly becoming a better man? I found this online and it has stuck with me.
The Measure of a Man
-Grady Poulard-
The measure of a man is not determined
By his show of outward strength
Or the volume of his voice
Or the thunder of his actions
Or by his intellect.
It is seen in the love that he has
For his family and for everyone
The strength of his commitments
The genuineness of his friendships
The sincerity of his purpose
The quiet courage of his convictions
The fun, laughter, joy and happiness he gives
to his family and to others
His love of life,
His patience and his honesty
And his contentment with what he has.
The TRUE measure of a man? I’m not sure, but not a bad start.

From The West
Welcome to the month of September my Brothers and friends.
September is seen by many to be a very pleasant time of year. For those in the northern hemisphere, the weather is finally starting to let up, with cooler nights chasing away the heat of day. September is the time to finish the year’s harvest and celebrate its bounty. September is of course also a great time of the year in the southern hemisphere. Gone are the dark days of winter, this month is a great time to get outside and appreciate the first flowers of their spring.
Like every other month of the year, September has plenty to show for itself. September’s name is quite inaccurate these days. It was originally the seventh month of the ancient Roman calendar, and as such it was named Septem, which translates into “the seventh month.” It wasn’t until 451 BC that the months January and February were added to the calendar, making September the ninth month.
September also used to only have 29 days. Thanks to Julius Caesar’s reform of the Roman calendar in 46 BC the month now has that additional 30th day. The month was later adjusted in 1852 when the British Empire skipped 11 days between the 2nd and 14th. This was due to the British changing from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar.
The last fact of the month is ancient Romans would often associate different months with their various deities. In the case of September, it was was associated with Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, quite possibly because it was a fiery hot month when it was still the seventh month of the year.
This is somewhat appropriate as of late with the high temperatures that we have been enduring. As we move through the remainder of September, do remember to keep yourself save from hotter than normal temperatures and plan again for rolling blackouts as we are likely to suffer through them.

Welcome to September. The Grand Lodge will be holding the Annual Communication in October. They have sent the proposed Legislation. It will be in a binder in the upstairs Dining Room for anyone that would like to review it. After review, if you have thoughts or suggestions, please present them to the Master. After several delay’s we should be having the Fellow Craft Degree for Brother Elijah Descoteaux. If your cable tow allows, please join us and help to show Brother Descoteaux how good the fellowship is.
