From the East
Greetings Brethren and Ladies,
October is here and it feels like it is finally cooling off a bit! I know for one I am sure happy about that! I can’t wait for the rain to come and the leaves to start changing colors. It’s the best time of the year.
We have a good amount of fun stuff happening this month.
First, we are meeting up to see the Catapult Shadow Dance Group in Poway on Sunday, October 10th. Check with Dave or Catheren to see if you can still get a ticket!
Next, we have our Stated Meeting on Monday October 11th. I believe Chase is prepping something extra special for this one so please come and join us!
That coming Saturday, October 16 we will be having a progressive dinner! It will be at 4:00pm and will be starting the Murray’s house for appetizers, the Ruch’s for dinner, and the Krickhuhn’s for desserts. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Finally, we will be handing out candy to the little monsters on October 29th from 4pm-6pm at the lodge for Ramona’s Merchant Safe Trick or Treat!
Its good to see we have a busy schedule and are getting to finally go out and see each other for fun and fellowship. I look forward to seeing everyone at all the events we have.

‘Tis the time of colorful foliage, crisp air, and pumpkin spice.
This is my favorite time of year. The heat is finally passing, yet it’s not that cold, wet winter. Without question, my favorite pastime is sitting around a campfire with family and friends, snuggling under that extra blanket, and yep deer season is right around the corner.
It’s the only season with more than one commonly used name. But, what to call it—autumn or fall? And what came first? Prepare yourself for the dawn of sweater weather with some insights into the origins of fall and autumn.
The word autumn comes from the French autompne, from the Latin autumnus, whose deeper roots are obscure. It’s first recorded in English as early as the late 1300s—notably, both Chaucer and Shakespeare used it in their works. Today, speakers of American English commonly use both fall and autumn to refer to the season, though fall became more common in the US by the late 1800s. Speakers of British English largely use autumn.
Recorded use of the word fall as the name of the third season of the year comes from as early as the 1500s. The name is thought to originate in the phrase the fall of the leaf, in reference to the time of year when deciduous trees shed their leaves. The name of its inverse season, spring, is thought to come from the phrase spring of the leaf—the time when everything is blossoming. The name fall was commonly used in England until about the end of the 1600s, when it was ousted by autumn.

This month for our Stated Meeting, we will again be having dinner up stairs while SMMBA works on rejuvenating the downstairs dining area. As we did not have the opportunity to enjoy our October Stated Meeting in 2020, I am happy to say and thank Worshipful Brother Peter Krickhuhn and Miss Connie for being willing to provide us their famous Oktoberfest feast as they have many years in the past.
Chase Murray - Junior Warden (Elect)
